LEYTE Rep. Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez on Monday said he respects President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s remarks on the issues surrounding him, stressing that he never sought any favor or special treatment and remains ready to answer the allegations on flood control through the proper legal process.

In a statement, the former Speaker acknowledged the impact of the controversy on his family but said he accepted the President’s position.

“Masakit man ito sa aming pamilya, iginagalang ko ang naging pahayag ng Pangulo. Hindi ako kailanman humingi ng pabor o espesyal na pagtrato,” Romualdez said.

During his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announed that cases would be filed against his cousin and other lawmakers in connection with the alleged anomalous flood control projects.

Romualdez said the proper course is to allow due process to take its course and let the evidence determine the outcome.

“Sang-ayon ako na gawin natin ang tama. Ang tama ay ang sumunod sa proseso at hayaan ang ebidensya ang magsalita.”

He maintained that he had committed no wrongdoing and said he was prepared to prove his innocence.

“Naninindigan akong wala akong ginawang anumang labag sa batas. At handa akong patunayan ito,” Romualdez said.
