Gold’s Gym x Metcon yesterday unveiled its new training hub at Venice Grand Canal Mall, establishing a premium training destination for HYROX—the fitness racing format that’s rapidly gaining popularity across Asia.
While still gaining recognition in the Philippines, HYROX has already seen significant growth across Asia, with events drawing large numbers of participants in cities like Taipei and Bangkok, making it one of the fastest-growing fitness competition formats in the region.
The new 750-square-meter facility, located on the third floor of the Venice Grand Canal Mall in McKinley Hill, Taguig City, features specialized equipment and training zones specifically optimized for HYROX preparation, establishing Gold’s Gym x Metcon as a leading destination for this emerging fitness trend in the Philippines.
“HYROX represents the future of functional fitness competition, and Gold’s Gym x Metcon is helping Manila join this growing trend,” said Edmundo Luis R. Vega, Owner of Gold’s Gym Powered by Metcon. “We’ve built a complete training space for this competition format, from the specialized equipment to the coaching expertise to our proprietary GRIN Method training system.”
For those unfamiliar with the trend, HYROX combines running with functional workouts in a standardized format: eight 1-kilometer runs, each followed by a different workout station including rowing, sled pushing, and wall balls. Unlike constantly changing CrossFit workouts, HYROX maintains the same format worldwide, allowing global comparison of results.
At the heart of the gym’s HYROX preparation is The GRINMethod—a proprietary training system developed by fitness expert Anton Sietereales that has already produced significant results for competitive athletes.
“The GRIN Method is specifically designed to prepare athletes for HYROX’s unique demands,” explained Sietereales during the launch event. “By building endurance, strength, and movement efficiency, we’ve created a training approach that delivers real results for both competitive athletes and fitness enthusiasts.”
The coaching team is joined by Justin Hernandez, who made history as the first Filipino male CrossFit Games athlete and four-time CrossFit Open National Champion for the Philippines. “I’ve seen firsthand how Filipino athletes excel at the mix of endurance and strength that HYROX demands,” said Hernandez. “Our goal is to build a solid team of competitors from right here who can make their mark at events across Asia.”
The team showcased the H-700 workout at the media launch—a compact yet intense HYROX-style challenge combining endurance and strength. Two certified GRIN Method Coaches competed head-to-head: Tinoy Borromeo (commercial pilot and professional model) versus Mauro Lumba (Philippine Muay Thai bronze medalist and Century Tuna Superbods 2014 winner). The timed challenge consisted of a 300m Run, 20 Bag-Facing Burpees, 300m Ski Erg, 20 Energy Bag Lunges, 40m Sled Push & Pull, and 20 Wall Balls.
Beyond HYROX-specific training, the McKinley Hill location features comprehensive facilities including traditional strength equipment, functional fitness zones, the BOOMBOX boxing club, and Cobrinha Manila Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Club in the martial arts area, along with a premium recovery suite featuring ice baths and saunas for optimal performance and recovery.
“This location is built to be Manila’s premier HYROX training club,” Vega said. “We’ve created a space where strength training, functional fitness, and professional recovery all come together under one roof. This is what the fitness community has been waiting for – a facility that takes performance seriously at every level.”
To celebrate its opening, Gold’s Gym x Metcon is offering a limited Founding Membership Package for only PHP8,500 per month for the first 50 membership applicants. This package includes personalized GRIN Method programming specifically designed for performance enhancement, customized nutrition guidance, full use of thermal recovery suite (icebath and sauna), and exclusive Founding Member gear.
