As the premier digital-first college in the Philippines with a core focus on the application of technology in business, Mapúa Malayan Digital College’s (MMDC) mission is to empower working students through transformative education. Beyond its programs, MMDC also actively collaborates with top employers in the country to create opportunities for working students and individuals to continue their education. Most recently, MMDC announced its partnership with McDonald’s Philippines (Golden Arches Development Corporation or GADC) to provide Continuing Education support to its employees in the National Capital Region through partial scholarships.

As a company that recognizes the importance of education and upskilling for its employees, GADC’s partnership with MMDC will first provide educational assistance to its store managers in NCR and then eventually to more employees in other regions. “Since we started operations over 40 years ago, our chairman and founder Dr. George T. Yang committed to provide employment opportunities to students. We are proud to partner with MMDC to achieve our shared values and goals of supporting working students in McDonald’s”, says Margot Torres, McDonald’s PH Managing Director.
For the initial program, non-graduate McDonald’s employees can look forward to partial scholarships from MMDC. Tuition fees for the first 45 units will be shouldered by MMDC while the remaining tuition and miscellaneous fees will be shared by McDonald’s and the scholarship recipients. Aside from the scholarship programs, students of MMDC may intern and potentially be employed by McDonald’s PH in the future.
These initiatives by MMDC are a testament to Mapúa’s near-century-long legacy of supporting working students. “Architect Tomas Mapúa founded Mapúa University (then Mapúa Institute of Technology) in1925, and the university’s first two programs were tailored to help working students,” says Dr. DodjieMaestrecampo, President of Mapua University and Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna, the mother school of MMDC.
Today, MMDC believes its digital-first education is the key to supporting working students. By providing an education model that allows more flexibility and affordability, more students can learn the necessary IT skills and develop a stronger business sense needed in today’s workplace. In addition, MMDC’s BS IT program has leveled up. MMDC now offers a development-focused program specializing in software development and network & cybersecurity, as well as a business-focused program specializing in data analytics, marketing technology, and entrepreneurship technology. Combined with its flexible schedule, practical approach to learning, and affordability, MMDC is educating a new generation of professionals ready to step up and succeed.
With this new McDonald’s partnership and the support of iPeople, the publicly listed Yuchengco-Ayala partnership, MMDC continues to not only support working students but also leverage its network to help serve the needs of the country through education. “We’re excited to finally launch this partnership with McDonald’s Philippines,” says Fred Ayala, President of iPeople. “At MMDC, we are committed to provide Mapúan Academic Excellence to more scholars and working students.”
