An intimate 10-seat counter brings guests closer to Chef Junji Nagaoka’s Edomae craftsmanship, seasonal Japanese ingredients, and personal approach to omakase.
Ginza Nagaoka at Okada Manila has retained its MICHELIN Selected recognition in the MICHELIN Guide Manila and Environs & Cebu 2027, marking its second consecutive year of inclusion. The recognition puts the spotlight on a distinctly personal dining experience: just 10 seats at a sushi counter, where guests watch Chef Junji Nagaoka prepare each course and discover the Japanese traditions behind it.

Chef Junji Nagaoka Receives MICHELIN Recognition
Chef Junji Nagaoka receives Ginza Nagaoka’s MICHELIN Selected recognition at the MICHELIN Guide Manila and Environs & Cebu 2027 ceremony on October 29, 2026, marking the Okada Manila restaurant’s second consecutive year of inclusion in the guide.
Following its inclusion in the guide’s inaugural Philippine edition, the restaurant’s continued recognition was announced at the October 29 ceremony. Its omakase experience brings together seasonal ingredients sourced from Japan, traditional Edomae techniques, and attentive service shaped around the guests at the counter.
“Receiving this recognition for a second year is an honor for our whole team,” said Chef Junji Nagaoka. “At our counter, guests can see the care behind each piece of sushi and discover the ingredients and traditions that shape it. We want them to taste the season, feel welcome, and leave with a deeper appreciation of Japanese dining.”
The craft behind the counter
The Craft Behind Every Piece
Edomae sushi at Ginza Nagaoka showcases seasonal seafood sourced from Japan, carefully balanced with vinegared rice to highlight the flavor and texture of each ingredient.
Ginza Nagaoka specializes in Edomae sushi, a traditional style originating in Tokyo. Carefully prepared seafood and vinegared rice form the foundation of each piece, with close attention to seasoning, temperature, and balance. The changing selection of seasonal Japanese ingredients gives returning diners different flavors and textures to explore throughout the year.
With only 10 seats, the counter places diners close to the preparation. Guests can follow Chef Junji’s work, learn about the ingredients, and engage with him as the meal unfolds. The experience makes the craftsmanship visible, from the preparation of the seafood to the finishing of each piece.
For Chef Junji, that proximity also makes hospitality personal. Guided by lessons from his mentors, he observes diners’ preferences and reactions, adjusting the pace of service and conversation to help each guest feel at ease. Culinary technique and human connection shape the meal together.

We will continue to support chefs who preserve culinary traditions and give guests compelling reasons to dine at Okada Manila and visit the Philippines.”
The recognition supports Okada Manila’s dining campaign, THE WORLD’S BEST FLAVORS IN ONE DESTINATION.
